Calling All Tomten (Bishop Hill Christmas Elves)

Attention Parents:  This is a wonderful opportunity to share some of our Swedish Christmas traditions with your children!

The holiday season is fast approaching and the Bishop Hill Heritage Association is looking for 4th thru 6th boys and girls, to dress up as Tomten, the little Swedish elves that appear around town during our Christmas market weekends in November and December. Children will be provided with the traditional elf costume consisting of  red caps, grey sweatshirts, red sashes, and pants, which they wear over their clothes. As elves, they will be led around town engaging visitors in games of hide and seek and will be coached in performing other impish acts. Tomten delight our guests; over the years these folk characters have become
festival favorites!

If you’d like your child to join the fun and become a Tomten for a day, parents/guardians are asked to call the BHHA’s Todd DeDecker at 309-927-3899 and sign tour child up for a 2 hour shift. For their help, children will be awarded a $5 gift certificate from the Colony Store. Light refreshments will be provided for the children. We look forward to sharing this time-honored tradition with you and your family.

A Rainy Day in Bishop Hill... At Last!

Because this was the first rainy day in a such long, long time, I was unable to resist walking through the mist, snapping a few pics around my nest. All of Bishop Hill is ablaze in color today. The maples are putting on their annual show of gold. Stop in soon to enjoy it; such beauty is fleeting.
Happy Halloween
A gentle rain washed the pumpkins clean
A little acorn fairy

So many leaves to rake!!!!
